Privacy Policy

Perfect Places ("we", "us", or "our") is an independent mapping application operated by Leonidez Acosta. It helps you find places that match your criteria by layering datasets such as commute times, school zones, and flood risk onto a single map. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Perfect Places is intended for users in the United States; the service is not directed to individuals in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom. If you access it from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States, and you are responsible for complying with your local laws.

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address, which we use to send you a passwordless sign-in link and to identify your account.
  • Authentication data. If you enable multi-factor authentication, we store the information needed to verify your authenticator app codes. There is no password to see or store, because Perfect Places does not use passwords.
  • Content you create. The projects, map layers, and preferences you build — including the addresses and locations you search for, save, or use as reference points (such as a workplace or a home) — are stored with your account.
  • Technical and usage data. Like most web applications, our hosting and error-monitoring tools automatically receive limited technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and diagnostic details when something goes wrong.

How we use your information

  • To create and secure your account and sign you in.
  • To provide the core product: saving your projects, rendering maps, geocoding the addresses you enter, and calculating things like travel times and nearby places.
  • To operate, maintain, debug, and improve the service, including diagnosing and fixing errors.
  • To communicate with you about your account and the service.

Map and location data

When you search for an address or place, or generate a layer such as a travel-time area or nearby points of interest, the location you entered is sent to Stadia Maps so it can return geocoding, routing, and points-of-interest results. To draw the map itself, the area you are viewing is sent to Mapbox so it can return the map tiles for that view. These providers process that data under their own privacy terms. We do not sell your personal information, including your location data.

With your permission, the app may also ask your browser for your device's approximate location. We use it to center the map near you when you first open it, and to offer a "My Location" shortcut when you add a place to a project. This is optional — if you decline the browser's prompt, the app still works and simply uses a default map view and manual address entry. If you do use these features, your location is handled like any address you enter: it may be sent to Stadia Maps to resolve the corresponding place and, if you save it to a project, stored with your account.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of trusted third parties to run the service, and we share only the information needed for them to perform their function:

  • Render — application hosting. Our servers run on Render, which processes your requests and receives technical data such as your IP address.
  • Supabase — database and authentication.
  • Resend — delivery of account emails. When we send you a sign-in link, Resend processes your email address and the message in order to deliver it to your inbox.
  • Stadia Maps — geocoding, routing, and points of interest.
  • Mapbox — map-tile rendering.
  • Sentry — error monitoring and diagnostics.
  • Better Stack — log management and monitoring. Server logs, which may include your IP address and diagnostic details, are forwarded here from the hosting platform.

Data retention

We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize the associated personal data, except where it must be retained to comply with legal obligations or to resolve disputes.

Your rights and choices

You can access and update the information in your account at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and associated data. To request deletion, email us at [email protected], and we will delete or anonymize your account and associated personal data within a reasonable time after we confirm your request, except anything we must retain to comply with legal obligations or to resolve disputes. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information; to exercise them, contact us at the same address.

Security

We use industry-standard measures — including passwordless sign-in, optional multi-factor authentication, encryption in transit, and access controls so that other users cannot access your account's data — to protect your information. As the operator, we ourselves can access the data stored in the service, including your account's contents, when reasonably needed to run, support, secure, and debug the service or to comply with the law, and we limit that access to those purposes. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's privacy

Perfect Places is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
